Professional models in fitness commercials, magazines, and other places have fantastic looking abs. The truth is, these kinds of abs are the result of a low body fat percentage. In many cases, it’s just temporary for them. They follow a hardcore diet just before a photo shoot. Between jobs they put a few pounds back on because such a low amount isn’t good for long term health. What you see is generally a 7-12% body fat percentage, depending on genetics and fitness routines. So, if you want ripped, sexy abs like models then you need low body fat. However, I would advise you to not be obsessed with that type of stomach. Even if your ab muscles aren’t popping out, you can still look very good and be healthy. Don’t fall for this gimmick.
The fat from your stomach is removed while reducing the fat on your body overall. Thus, anything that helps burn fat can provide improvements for your tummy. Although, the gut is usually the last place to release the blubber. This is why it’s important to have a healthy eating and exercise plan that you stick to for life. I know it seems odd, but doing exercises that don’t target your abs and eating well still helps you achieve a sweet midsection. I encourage you to get your protein from lean sources, consume ample fresh fruits and vegetables, and enjoy great snacks like nuts and regular popcorn. Also, try to move more often even if it’s just walking.
You can ‘cheat’ the system. While the basics never change, like needing a calorie deficit, there is some fudging you can do that makes things easier and more enjoyable. For example, if you’re having trouble with food consumption then eat filling snacks and foods which are also delicious. Lean protein is a good solution like fish and fowl (or soy if you avoid meat). My personal favorite is oatmeal which you can flavor with fruit, cinnamon, or even honey. Another trick is to pair calcium sources with your meals. The calcium in dairy products binds itself to fat, forcing it to pass through your body instead of being absorbed. This won’t save the day all by itself, but it will give you that needed edge in your battle.
You’ve probably seen ads for products or services that claim you can remove fat from just your belly. This is known as ‘spot reducing’. Without surgery, you cannot specifically remove fat from a particular location. Our bodies have a linear preference for storing fat. Fat is typically reduced in the reverse order. This is why you see men with big guts and why most women struggle with hips, thighs, and butt even if they’ve lost weight. If you hear someone claiming their abs gadget can remove your stomach fat (something that magically removes only your gut fat) you can rest assured that it isn’t true. Perhaps their product removes body fat in general, consequently reducing your stomach fat, but they usually don’t explain thoroughly.
Maybe you’ve heard that performing a ton of ab exercises everyday, like crunches, will give you a sexy stomach. This isn’t true. It’s not a good idea to strenuously work a group of muscles without breaks. This goes for any weight lifting (or body weight routines) in regards to muscles and your abs are muscles. In order to have a great tummy you don’t have to do ab exercises at all, but if you do then make sure to only focus on them three days per week at most. Having nice looking abs depends more on body fat percentage. If you’re carrying around several inches of flab over your stomach then no amount of abdominal exercises will help unless you remove the fat safely.
Some believe that surgery is the answer. Whether it’s stomach shrinking or liposuction, people want easy shortcuts and ‘professionals’ tell them it’s okay. While surgery may be necessary in a small number of instances, by and large it’s a terrible idea. If a person doesn’t make the necessary lifestyle changes then no amount of sucking and tucking will solve the problem. The fat will return and their overall health will remain poor. There’s more to looking sexy than just removing fat from your stomach. A healthy lifestyle will improve everything from attitude to complexion. It’s an overall boost that makes you attractive and gives you a nice, sexy tummy as a byproduct. Avoid risky, unnecessary procedures.

That resource can very well be the stored fat around your midsection. If you make a conscious effort to squeeze in extra movements throughout your day, you’ll notice that your waistline will start to get smaller.
Tip #2: Consume Fat Burning Foods
Did you know that certain foods take off the fat faster than others? If you truly want to reduce belly fat then you should definitely find a way to work a few food items into your meal plans. A great example of this would be spicy foods like peppers. I try my best to eat peppers with at least one meal a day. I simply love them with dishes that involve chicken or even typical deli sandwiches. It does ad a little kick so be careful. If this is a sensation that you can tolerate then please go for it. Something else you should make certain to eat plenty of is protein. This nutrient is harder to digest than fat or carbohydrates. Therefore, when your body digests protein you actually end up burning additional calories. So if you pair peppers and chicken together like I do, you’ll be ripping that stomach fat off in no time.
Tip #3: Give Your Body the Right Nutrients and Vitamins
Nothing will go well if your body becomes starved of what it needs most: proper nutrients and vitamins. If you can’t find a way to fit these into your normal diet then you may want to consider taking a daily mutli-vitamin. It’s extremely imperative that you do this for yourself. A nice, flat tummy would do you very little good if your organs started to fail or if you felt sick everyday. If you treat your body well and give it the proper building blocks then it will reward you with a sexy figure. When your body has these necessary tools it makes something like weight loss for women and men a small hurdle that you can easily overcome.
If you follow these tips and consult a solid fitness resource then you are well on your way to improving your health and shaping your body. You may need to reduce calories or take additional steps to achieve your ideal body, but you can certainly plan for that. Don’t fall victim to the bad advice that permeates the internet. Failure won’t be possible if you are prepared. Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes that people make is to dive headlong into a process without a plan. ‘Winging it’ can be exciting and fun, I suppose. Maybe it works out at the beginning, but those approaches tend to end with failure. Travel the smart and steady path.

Even when the economy is good, I don’t want to waste hard earned money on junk products or crappy programs. Some of the popular ones are usually worthwhile so that’s what I’ve been checking out. There are a lot of legal ways to get your copy of workout videos and equipment for either free or very cheap. You don’t have to turn into a scam artist or thief to save a few bucks. Just to be clear, I’m giving you options to obtain legit copies.
A Few Good Tips
One of the best ways to get these types of things for free is to simply fill out short forms or enter contests. I know what you’re thinking. Those contests are probably all scams or you’ll never win. That’s what I used to think until I won a few. I actually took the time to just enter an email address here and there. I filled out a few forms for various local contests and got lucky. Sure, you might not win. But hey, you definitely won’t win if you don’t even try.
Local ads and listings are great for this. You can check online listings (like craigslist) or local paper listings. Some local companies or newspapers even have a website that’s meant just for people in the area. You’d be shocked at how you can get tons of fitness related stuff for free using this tactic. I bought an entire workout station loaded with weights for only $35. It was easily worth a thousand bucks. The lady that sold it just wanted to get rid of it. People like this don’t even care about the price they just want to dump the stuff onto someone else. Their hurried attitude is your gain.
Moving sales are huge. People are moving overseas quite often these days. Maybe they got a job in Asia. Maybe they are in the military and need to sell all the stuff cluttering their house or apartment. Maybe they are just going on an extended vacation and don’t want to keep up with a home and all its contents. This is perfect for grabbing things like old workout videos, weights, and fitness equipment. You’ll spend pennies on the dollar with this. These sales are often listed in the local paper and online, but you may need to drive around a few neighborhoods to find sale signs.
My Favorite Workouts
I’ve tried a lot of different programs. Probably one of my favorites would be p90x. It has a great mix of conditioning, muscle development routines, and cardiovascular sessions. It’s very popular and I’m sure you’ve heard of it or seen a commercial. Surprisingly enough, it actually does what it claims to do. Another program I’ve tried is Insanity. It leans more toward cardio than muscle building. It’s very good for getting lean and being in good shape. What I tend to do with my personal workout is to mix and match the video sessions based on what I feel I need to accomplish for the week. So far it’s working out nicely. If you can get a cheap or free p90x & Insanity then that’s even better.
Of course, there are tons of other video series and programs out there. But hey, we all want to get something for free these days and I don’t blame you. I’d say try to get whatever you can for free or cheap and go from there. If you feel like something is worth paying for then you can always buy everything you need at a later date. That’s the safest and most frugal way to approach the situation.
